Joseph Lymer & Son, Funeral Directors

Jeff and his team are here to for you to listen, understand and advise you through a difficult time.

Jospeh Lymer & Son now is now under the ownership of Jepson Funerals Limited, a fifth-generation family owned and run business. They have combined their years of experience to offer you support in every aspect of arranging a funeral. We hope we can make this time a little easier Our History Joseph Lymer & Son was founded in the early 1950’s by Joseph and his son, George. The business evolved from the sale of fruit and veg to undertakers, following the demise of corner shops in the late 50’s. The original business was based in their fruit and veg shop on Waterloo Street, Hanley. Joe would notoriously stand on the front step to capture passing trade whilst George sold produce from his horse and cart. The family moved out of the shop in Hanley, to the current premises at Bucknall in 1956. George and his wife Eira had three daughters Sheila, Diana and Karen. Diana and Karen worked with their father upon leaving school and Karen’s husband Glen, a former engineer, later joined them in 1981. George sadly passed away suddenly in 1981 aged 58, followed by Joe in 1985 and Eira in 1987. George’s main passion was for horses, and all three daughters have followed in his footsteps by competing at all levels on their ponies. The Jepson family acquired the business in 2021 and are the fifth generation of funeral directors. We’re here to help Bereavement is a time when careful guidance and advice is needed most; a time to express personal wishes and to make sure that every detail has been carefully considered and attended to. Following a death, certain practical steps need to be taken at an early stage, normally when family and close friends are suffering from shock and emotional stress. Therefore, the professional guidance and advice that we as funeral directors can offer is often a comfort, which is available 24 hours a day.
