In the intervening 100+ years, we have provided support and funeral care to families throughout the community, always ensuring we adhere to the values we were founded upon: kindness and understanding.Once out of necessity and once out of convenience we have moved premises. Our first funeral home in Exeter opened on Summerland Street, where it remained until it was destroyed during the Blitz of 1942. We subsequently moved to Old Tiverton Road, with the chapels and workshops based at our present site. During our time at both locations, we were known by the family name of W Mitchell & Son. This changed in 1988, when it was decided to move everything to the current premises and the name was shortened to Mitchell.Our Exeter funeral directors can be found on King William Street, near to the main shopping parade. This central location means we are accessible to all areas within the city, such as Exwick, Heavitree and St Thomas. The funeral director can give you a full list of what they can supply. They are likely to charge for these additional products and services, so you may choose to take care of some arrangements without their involvement, or you can use a different supplier.
1. This fee (which is sometimes called the interment fee) is the charge made for digging and closing a new grave, or for reopening and closing an existing grave.
2. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you will usually need to pay doctors’ fees as well. This is the charge for two doctors to sign the Medical Certificates for Cremation.
